What could be more American than roasting hot dogs over a campfire while sweating bullets (because a campfire and 80+ degrees weather = dope) and being eaten alive by bugs?

Abigail with her dragonfly and Tristan with his pinecone tomahawks. (This is his current camera/picture smile. Kind of has a vampire look going on!) We had a great time in the sun at Riverfest and dinner with friends. Felt like summer today! Woohoo!

I never watched the show 30 Rock (although I was there just this past weekend. I mean literally, we ate dinner where the ice skating rink is at Rockfeller Center and then went to the Lego store, of course.) but I always liked Tina Fey's characters on SNL. So when a friend offered to let me borrow her book, I said sure. So glad I did! This book reads like you are having an evening with a good friend where you end up laughing so hard you shoot soda out of your nose, several times. A recommended read for sure - but not for the faint of heart. Although this book is not overly raunchy or obscene, there are a colorful variety of subjects covered and word choices along the way!

There is nothing I find more precious in the world then a baby reading a book. I love watching the range of expressions that cross their face. I always wonder just how they process what they are seeing. And then of course to complete the tactile experience, the book must end up in the mouth. Kids rock!

Daily Photo::19-20
Our fun, super busy, with some unexpected surprises thrown in (like the
migraine I woke up with Saturday morning and forgot my medicine for...)
weekend means I am posting pictures for days 19 & 20 late. But I
know all my dedicated readers (ha,all 5 of you!) will forgive me.
Carousel ride in Central Park, what a lifeline in the city!

a million years - david gray
Flat out I’m running
Through walls of concrete
Let fall from my spirit
A lifetime of hate
That shone in our faces a million years
They’re screeching and yelling
I don’t hear no sound
The blue light of heaven
Rising up from the ground
That shone in our faces a million years
A million years
No fear coming over
Nor doubt taking hold of me
Preparing my face for the gates of Eternity
They’re fastening my ankles
They’re strapping my wrists
They’re sending me someplace
Where pain don’t exist
That shone in our faces a million years
No fear coming over
Nor doubt taking hold of me
Preparing my face for the gates of Eternity
Like frost on the branches now
Like foam on the surf
If it’s nothing I came from Lord
Then it’s nothing I’m worth
That shone in our faces a million years
A million years
A million years

Some people's view on the way to work the bumper of someone else's car. Some people take the bus, subway or even ferry. Some people take the ever ironically named highway, "The Parkway". Me? I think I have the BEST commute out there. A 5 minute walk through a misty or sunny or drenched-in-life-giving-rain woods. Whatever the weather, I have the best view around.

Tonight I am cooking up some yummy poached pears and prunes to puree up for Kai. One of my favorite cooking blogs, Smitten Kitchen, has inspired me to spice up (pun intended) my view on baby food. The vanilla and cinnamon smell so good, I want a spoonful! Plus after 2 weeks of having a constipated baby, prunes become a very important part of a daily diet. :-) Spinach or squash next?

Mother's Day, people, is exhausting! Joking aside, thanks for the cards, the beautiful flowers to plant, the smiles & hugs, the Princess Bride (my favorite childhood movie!), the handmade goodness, the yummy dinner, the David Gray CD, the treasure hunt, the sunshine & warmth, the joy of celebration. Best job in the world, folks, best job in the world...

Tristan: What are we doing tonight?
Me: We are going to hike to a waterfall we have never been to before.
Tristan: Going to just look at a waterfall sounds boring, Mom. Now if we were going to fish in it, that would be cool.
Fishing was never mentioned once on the hike and it was decided that this is the best place ever. Tristan is, however, a boy after his father's heart.

This is truthfully a photo from 2009 but I feel that it eloquently expresses the sentiments of the siblings around here lately. Whether or not it is actually true, however, is quite another matter.

Okay, I know I said I would be posting one picture a day for the month of May but this next one needs two to be fully appreciated.
Happy Mother's Day to me! Quite a significant upgrade from my current $10 tracfone. This one even starts the car! At least I think that's what that button on the bottom does...

After dinner fishing adventure on the river. The kids spent most of their time being archeologists and digging up the remains of an old factory and railroad. What fun it is to dig up old electrical lines in the sand, bang rusted railroad spikes on rocks, and negotiate with Mom and Dad for how much "treasure" they can bring home!

A misty ride this afternoon to pick up the kids from school, making everything a vibrant green. Hopefully May showers will bring June flowers.

I've decided to do several months of daily photos throughout this year. I need some serious motivation to get back into blogging. I am hoping this will help! May will be my first photo-a-day
challenge. I'll be posting a photo each day this month along with a short description. Enjoy!
Tristan has graduated to 2 hands today! He was born at 2:57am on May 1st, a nice and robust 8lbs 13ozs and 21 inches. This morning when I told him Happy Birthday he asked if it were 3 a clock in the morning. When I said no (it was 6:30am) he said then it wasn't his birthday yet. Maybe we should have gotten him a clock for his birthday...
